Hi,
I have a 2003 Regal Comodore 2860 with dual mercuirsers 4.3. I need help bypassing the Fireboy (FE-241) engine shutdowm system. Today I tried to start the port engine and the Fireboy alarm/green light beeped and blinked 5 times. After that my engine will not start (I turn the key but nothing happens/no beep ..nothing). My starboard engine works fine.
I checked the fire extinguisher tank (it does not show discharged/ the gauge is still is green). It could be a fuse, but I could not find it.

I dont trust the fireboy system (it can easily leave you stranded) and I would like to be able to manually override it.
Thanks!
Lui

Do you have a single or dual Fireboy system? It seems to reason a single system would shutdown both engines, not just one.

I have a single Fireboy. I think that only the starboard engine is hooked up to it. Only the staboard engine would make the green LED indicator light go on. Also,I did notice a red cable that goes from the starboard starting switch (and relay) that goes in the direction of the LED green indicator lamp. The port engine does not have that red cable comng from the starter switch.

I though about cutting that cable The one that goes from the starter swtch and relay in the direction of the LED indicator) and jump it. But the cable is connected to both the starter switch and the relay. I dont think it would make a difference. In other words, that red cable is not interrupting the circuit.

Is it possible that the Fireboy system in my boat does nott have the auto shut down feature? It could be another problem causing the switch to fail. Im sorry; I dont know how the Fireboy system works. Maybe I just have a lose cable...

I was about to mention that. The panel is only a monitor of the tank and the red cable probably powers the panel and sensing circuit from the ignition switch.

Lets step outside of the box. When you try to start, nothing happens and the starter doesn't turn the motor over. A shutdown device would only disable the ignition, like a man overboard switch/lanyard.

I would look at the battery and connections for the port motor. Low voltage could cause the Fireboy to lose it's mind and do any sort of strange things.

Do you have a dual battery switch? Switch to both to see if it makes a difference.

Got it. THANKS! I did try the battery switch 1, 2 and all> But you are right. If it was a shutdown device issue, the engine would turn. I will start looking for the electrical problem.

I dont think Regal has fuses for the starter (they use breakers).
