Hi All, Hope someone can help me out here. 4.3 mercruiser. Alpha 1 drive. Was out ski ing all day couple days ago, everything fine, went to start her up following day and would not start, had to hook up a feed from battery + to coil, got it going and running fine. Any ideas what this can be. Thanks
Abe.

Hi Abe,
I know you have posted in other posts what you have specifically - but we don't remember from one day to the next. You will need to be more specific with what you have.

Also - when you say it would not start - does that mean the engine would not even turn over - like a dead battery? Or would it turn over, but just would not start?

Fishermark, sorry, yes the engine was turning fine just not firing, battery was ok bilge etc all working, I'm guessing an electrical fault of some sort will get the manual out. Like i said put a feed from battery to coil fired up OK. any ideas,
Thanks again
Abe.

Well, again, it would help to know what you are working on. (A 4.3 Mercruiser comes in several variations). For instance, I know many of the newer fuel injected motors will not start at all if the voltage drops below a certain point. MAYBE by giving it power directly it is getting enough juice to fire up. I know that if you tell us what you have specifically, others will be able to give a more informed opinion as to the problem.

That has to do with firing the injectors.....................the engine will still turn over with a weak battery.

As for your issue abe, I'd get a meter or test light and start checking for voltage in the ing system. After of course I ruled out the safety switches.

Is that ignition fused. If yes might be a blown fuse.
