Killing the engine depends on the black w/yellow tracer wire connected to ground. This is normally accomplished by the ignition switch connecting that wire to ground (normally black wire) when in the off position. If the engine won't die, either the black/yellow is broken or not connected at one end or the other; the black(ground) is broken or not connected at one end or the other; or the ignition switch is not shorting the black/yellow to the black when in the off position.
