I have the 1991 4.3l Cobra Spitfire with the coil pack system on it. I recently replaced the starter and all was well until yesterday we pulled the boat to shore took a few minute break, went back out to start it and the engine turned over once then clicks. Figured it to be dead battery, went home checked battery, that was fine...so I figured I would try and jump start it, the engine turns over fine when I have a running car jumped to the boat battery. Although when I disconnect the terminals to the battery and just connect them to the jumper cables with the running vehicle battery it does the same thing just turns once then clicks...I could really use help with this one, I am going to bypass the slave solenoid tonight and go through all connections just to make double sure even though I just replaced the positive wires and checked the ground less than a month ago. Any Help would be much appreciated. Thank you

I would clean all the connections. Battery, starter and solenoid. Adding the running car jumpers and turning over OK seems to point to the battery connections or a failing clamp, but clean everything. Can't hurt anyway.

Thank you, will definitely check and clean the ground and the wires on the solenoids. Do you think if I bypass the slave solenoid that would tell me if it was some issue with that is that a waste of time since it does turn over still...Also wanted to add after the new starter every time I started it the first time I turn key it will turn the engine once then nothing, turn the key back and try again and it would start fine... sorry I forgot to mention that but I don't know if maybe it did have a bad connection and it finally just got too bad for it to go or if that tells you anything at all.

I would have to say its something to do with thr starter or the starter selnoid mine did that same thing. but what happened to mine was the jumper on the starter kept falling off cause it just to click. but double check ground and positive on starter cable.

It was the Battery I cleaned and checked all connections and still did it so I broke down and purchased a 1000 Marine cranking amp battery and she turns over good now. Thank you for your help
