got engine looked at and was told it was running hot maybe a thermostat. To make sure I pulled the thermostat and ran it and water was moving through and not running hot.

now it won’t start. What you think. Below is the video of me trying to start it and enclosed is the picture of the spark plugs.

I tried to replace the spark plugs west marine didn’t have them.

That would be a 77 to 79 model.-----Looks like it has been tossed around a bit.-----Starter cord looks to be too short.----May need spring wound up a bit more.----Check for spark on both leads.

That mixture knob is moved, if at all, 1/8 to 1/4 turn at a time. If no spark, no go. But probably should also close the mixture knob clockwise until LIGHTLY seated. Then turn it counterclockwise 1 1/2 turns and try to start. (Pull the plastic knob off the needle slightly or it will hang up on the stop.)

This is first boat so complete newbie here....it started yesterday. I replaced the thermostat and now won’t start.

Do the spark plugs looj dirty? I bought some champion j6c for it.

Think that will fix it ?

Turn the throttle 1/2 way ignore the start position. The start lettering on that is just a suggestion nothing more.

Plug would probably be L77JC4 gapped at .030. Check the plug requirement for your model number. And try turning the mixture knob a little bit counterclockwise (you appeared to be closing it in the clip). Moving the knob to the centered position isn't meaningful by itself, and the mixture setting might be too lean for the motor to start.

I am going to replace the cord. How do I wind the spring more?

Also I was able to isoldate the issue to the kill button. Seems to have had water in it. I will open up and clean out and spray with corrosion x.

When you pull the knob OUT you CLOSE the choke.------Put a rope around the flywheel to start it the old fashioned way for testing purposes.

Seems odd that the PO suggested water in the kill button. Did the motor get dunked?

No it did not, I opened the kill switch and the button was filled with water. I cleaned it out with wd40 and it started the next day no problem.

I have since sold this motor for $300 and stepping up to a 4hp 4 stroke that I will tap into my engines gas line. I am tired of carrying around a gas can on the floor. lol
