Engine year...help.

Trying to figure out my 225 Johnson year. I have a 87 175 and it looks very similar but the 225 looks more modern .I looked on the silver plug on the engine and the only number was G3056505 .Didn't give me any details what so ever. Any help would be appreciated . thanks in advance

i take it the plate on the mounting bracket it gone? From my knowledge it is almost impossible to determine anything based on the serial number before a certain year. your best bet is to post some pictures and perhaps someone can help from there.
