Engine year?

My Mariner 40hp was sold to me as a 1985. I was looking for an impeller and have not been able to cross-reference the S/N to the right part. My tag says "Model 40EL" "Code 6E9 L" "S/N 420664". <br />Is this really a 1985? Anybody point me to the right spot for the pump?<br />THANKS!!!

While I am not certain, I believe it is a 1985 as you suspected.<br />Mariner Model Guide<br />40C EL 6E9-416473 through 6E9-421567 1985<br /><br />You should invest in a service manual. They are a great resource for the DIY. Your local dealer will have the impeller part number, and likely stock it. Or iboats of course!

AMD,<br />Thanks for the tip. I'm not allowed to buy anything for myself at this time of year, but I'm sure a manual will be in my near future! As for the link, not my native language, but I'll take your word for it. My local shopp wants to charge 2x what I think the part should run. I'm still hoping to find this one on the net.
