It's tough to beat the torque from that V-4. Plus you have to figure that the basic block goes all the way up to 140Hp. The most they ever got out of that Force block was 90Hp. Plus there a whole lot more choices of props for the Javelin.

AND.....parts are a dime a dozen on the Johnson compared to the Farce.
Even with good care on both engines, the V4 will be running long after the death of the other...

Re: Engines

As the owner af a '76 Johnson 85hp, it's like the Energizer bunny, it just keeps going. Mine isn't teh same black as teh larger v4's though, it is only like 88.9ci I think, probably wrong on the exact size, but I know the larger ones were supposed to be a couple more ci. This little motor is a stump puller though.

The Johnson. You can run the Johnson, and keep the Force as a spare in the unlikely event that you may have to do a major repair on the Johnson and still want to use the boat. Does both have power trim?

Yes both have power trim but are different types Force has prestolite 2 cylinder and Johnson is single cylinder.Right now Force is on the boat and running good better than Johnson carbs probably need rebuilding it sat up for a few years after my son inlaw got another boat.Everyone talks like parts are cheaper for Johnson but i had to put a stator on the Javelin 88 Johnson and it wasnt cheap $345.00 thats more than for the Force engine.

Re: Engines

hmmm... lets put this in LAYMANS terms:

would you rather drive a mercedez benz or a kia. both run well now, and both have power windows and locks.
i've heard the merc benz is a better car, but i had to replace the alternator on the benz and it was kinda pricey, 350.00 , thats way more than the kia. :D ;)
