I have found a geat deal on a 2003 Johnson, 15hp, 4 stroke, for my 14' SeaNymph aluminum boat. I'm a big guy, 300 or so, and am concerned about whether or not it will get the boat up out of the water. I have a 4hp 2 stroke now, so I have very little to compare it with. I'm no speed deamon, so that's not an issue. ant thoughts out there?

Thanks

Re: Enough power?

How heavy is the boat? How heavy is the gear?

If it is average, I would say that it would be plenty of power for you. I had a 15hp Seaking that would plane my 14ft aluminum boat and I weigh 270.

Re: Enough power?

You will be fine - I am around 270 pounds and I spent 10 years or so tooling around in a 14 foot flatbottom with an 8 hp Merc. This would top out at around 16 mph in ideal conditions if I turned my hat around backwards. You will just need to spend a little time figuring out the optimum weight distribution for gas tank & battery.
