I bought my husband a boat yesterday. I (thought) I immediately recognized it as a 16 ft Boston Whaler. We owned a Whaler years ago and it looked very similar. The title states the make as a 1968 Ensign Yachts. Has anybody heard of this? What is an ensign yacht? Could it be a Whaler? Type on title is listed as a runabout/skiff and hull is listed as fiberglass/plastic. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to iboats. What kind of great spouse are you! :D

There are plenty of whaler experts here (and I'm not one of them) but offhand I'd say it isn't. All the Whalers I've seen usually have topsides the same colour as the hull and the steering console doesn't rise as high. Also the hull shape looks different to me as well.

I do like that old evinrude you've got on the back is it one of the 33 hp models? My parents had one when I was young and I loved it. I still remember what a smooth running motor it was.

Not a Whaler, but a heck of a nice gift just the same. I'd complain, but my wife has bought me a couple of motorcycles, so I really can't!

Haha. Thanks everyone. Well...I was really hoping it was a Whaler but nonetheless I think he will be excited to see my gift for him. I found it at a garage sake and got a smoking deal on it. He has taught me well enough to know a good boat when I see one. We own 2 other boats now and have always had boats. He works away and I'm keeping it a surprise. Bummed its not a Whaler but still excited about the boat. My hubby will do some work on it, fix it up and probably sell it after we play with it for a bit. He's a wheeler and a dealer. The Evinrude on it is a 40 horse. I was told it runs good but by all the greasy fingerprints on it is venture to say it is troubled at best. my hysband is knowledgeable in that department as well and has a couple Johnson outboards that I know run well. Thanks everyone for your responses...im am thrilled to have found this forum.
