Epoxy and Gel coat.

Hey guys

Im a new boat owner of a used boat and new to the site. To say the least most of the repair lingo is new to me. I have been reading many of the posts and have gathered a great deal of info. I'm a little confused between Gel Coat and Epoxy. Is gel coat another name for epoxy pr are they two different applications. Sorry guys found the answer I was looking for but im sure there will be more to follow. But any help on deleting a thread would helpful LOL.

Nope,... Epoxy is a building resin, like Polyester resin, only stronger...
Epoxy easily bonds to polyester, but polyester has an extremely limited bond to epoxy....

Gelcoat is a colored barrier coat, based on polyester resin....
