Hey guys,
I am rebuilding my helm/dash and decided to go with teak - the old dash was teak veneer over aluminum and was failing. I did something similar with my last boat and did several coats of MAS Flag epoxy over mahogany and followed it with MANY coats of Epifanes varnish. It held up great for the four seasons I owned that boat with no maintenance. So...considering that the only time the wood will actually see daylight is when we are underway, and it will most likely never see direct contact with water, am I okay going this way? I've seen opinions on both sides and have searched the site - quite a bit of info, but no one seems to just get down to the question of can/should I do it? The ultimate goal is a high-gloss durable finish. One caveat, it WILL be exposed to heat due to the dark green mooring cover. I am actually thinking of adding a power vent to help with this.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Doug
