I have just finished replacing my gas tank and I'm getting ready to lay over the new sole. The sole is 1/2" plywood, and this is not enough to walk on, so the previous panel had a 3/4" section measuring the dimensions of the gas tank glued to it for reinforcement.
Here is my plan, and I would like to hear any comments.
I will epoxy the bottom and edges of the sole panel with 1 coat. Then I will do the same with the 3/4" section. While this is setting up I will thicken the remainding epoxy and probably just zigzag a 1" bead and put the 2 together, clamp it, then let it setup . I will then put 2 more coats on this new bottom as a whole, leaving the top for glassing once in.
Does this sound right? What should be the consitency of my thickener for this?
Note: the 3/4" section never actually touches or is fastened to anything.
Thanks folks.

don't exactly follow.. but i wouldn't zig-zag.. i'd cover the whole glue surface with thicken epoxy.. thicken to a gizm like slurry...

Might not be a bad thing to zip those layers together with some stainless screws as well. Overkill maybe, but never having to worry about it is a good thing compared to the cheap cost and little effort it takes to toss some screws in there.

Re: epoxy- doubling plywood

Sounds good. I was going to put screws anyway so it wouldn't slip while clamping.
But I'm definitely not against overkill. THis area is right in the center of foot traffic so it needs to be sturdier than 1/2" by itself.
By zig-zag I meant I was just going to swirl a bead of epoxy(that's how the original was done), but it sounds like I'd be better swipe the entire area.
