Epoxy on Regular Everyday Woods?

I've read alot about epoxies on this site today. Something I didn't see mentioned (likely for good reason but I'll ask anyway).

For customizing the inside of an aluminum jon boat, and seeing as a quality epoxy is as good as it is (such as CPES) at sealing wood, is there a true need to use marine grade woods?

Would normal everyday plywood and other non-treated lumber hold up if sealed with a couple of applications of epoxy?

Not that I'd go that route, but the question comes to mind.

The reason for marine grade plywoods is for strength (no voids between plys. ) epoxy is used for glueing and moisture proving . once moisture gets in, the type of wood regulates how fast it will rot. ( douglas fir verses poplar) pressure treated wood is good for rot but its ply,s are full of voids. so you would not use it for a strong bottom.
