Bought the wife a quart of epoxy paint for the boat interior. Question, should i have gotten some kind of catalist or hardener to mix with the paint or just use it straight from the can? PETTIT, single component polyurethane topside paint. Also any idea of how much INTERGRIP no skid compound to add per quart? Paint will be on the floor of a runabout. thanks FRED

Are you saying the place you bought the paint doesn't know if there's a catalyst required?? Maybe they should stick to selling Slushies.
Is the paint epoxy or polyurethane, you've mentioned both.

Some epoxy paints require a catalyst, these are called 'two pack' or 'two part' paints. The paint cans are usually marked 'part A' and 'part B'.

Some epoxy paints are 'single pack'. They do not require a catalyst.

Read the can, what type do you have?

Re: epoxy paint--catalist?

Thanks for the response guys, Paint is called EASYPOXY. mfg. by PETTIT. Single component polyurethane. No part a or b on the can, and no directions on mixing anything. Remember when poly paint was first put on the market manufactored by dupont, trade name was IMRON, was for bridges and industrial use. Had to mix and be used within a time frame, so that is why I am concerned.
As the paint cost $25 dollars a qt. so want the wife to get it right the first time. Bought it at an ACE hardware store that has a decent marine section. Little girls behind the counter are good but know as much about paint as i do. Only game in town as i am on an island and the closest real marine store is 20 miles away.
Appreciate you input. regards fred

That is a one-part paint. You can use it straight from the can. It is really more of an acrylic paint than an epoxy despite the name. It is a decent paint.

I've used it. It's pretty good. If you roll and tip it comes out great. You can buy Rustoleums non-skid additive dirt cheap at Home Depot and add it to the paint and it works great.

I also found that you can buy Rustoleum's marine topside paint at Lowes for like $11 a quart (at least here in MA)

I got to get off the island more often. Paid around $19 for a quart can of this INTERGRIP. Thought it was empty, turns out it is like very fine ground glass. Well i bought it and the wife will use it. If it does not turn out right I will blame her. Think i could have used sand. Still( always) learning. Think the wife will really jump on the roller idea, she likes rolling paint. What a woman. fred
