ESA dong funny thing

Last year I changed out my shift cable and it was working good until the end of the season when it would keep the ESA engaged in both directions. So I started messing with it and can see that when I click it into gear(no throttle) it will work good. But, as soon as I start to give it some throttle it engages the ESA again. I'm at a loss.....

It shouldn't be engaging at all going into gear. What type of control are you using? Does it have the proper throw?

You store your drive in the down position? Storing it up is hard on the OMC lower cable.

Re: ESA dong funny thing

The control is original to the boat (1988 Sylvan Barritz V209 5.0L GM) Store it down, heard that tip on this board some time ago. I can pop the cable off the bellcrank and push/pull the cable by hand. It's stiff, but I can do it.. I do know that last summer it was sticking on when going into gear????But like I said it seems like it doesn't really engage the ESA when I first shift into gear, it's when I start to give it some throttle. why would the shift cable be wanting to move more once it's already in gear? Something need lube in the control?
