Escort trailer axle

I have a 97 Escort trailer for my 20 foot Maxum boat which needs and axle big time. I thought about just going to a straight axle instead of the 2"drop square axle which is on the boat, but I have some concerns that are making me want to just get the same axle that is on there now. I have the part number of the axle located and I know that Escort is out of business. What I am trying to find out is if there is anywhere on the net or stores that I can call to get the axle specs. I measured spring center to center and brake baking plate to brake baking plate, but hub face to hub face is hard with the boat still on the trailer. I want to have the axle in hand before I start to work on it. Anyway, any info would be appreciated.

Re: Escort trailer axle

AFAIK the distance from the brake flange to the hub face is fixed for a given brake size, so the axle shop should be able to build a replacement axle with the measurements you already have. If not, just put the trailer on stands and remove the wheels to measure the hub face distance.

Re: Escort trailer axle

I have a '93 Escort tandem and recently replaced all the hardware- spring bushings, equalizer bushings, etc. I got everything at easternmarine.com. Great prices, great service and all was as it should have been. Trailer is now quiet, (it squeaked like CRAZY) and it feels like it tows better. Probably psychological but I feel better. LOL
You measurements should get the job done- they may even have the exact one available.

Re: Escort trailer axle

all you need for an axle measurement is :

Hub face you can measure center or tire to center of tire(or like someone said take the tires off and measure where the rim sits up against the hub,ctr tire to ctr tire is easier)

Spring Centers obv center of drivers side spring to passenger side spring

Diameter of Tube of Axle or size of square tubing

how springs sit..

underslung sping sits UNDER axle
overslung springs sits ABOVE axle...
