Eska 7.5 hp lower u anatomy

Had the lower unit off my 217.586751, and the drive shaft pulled right out of it. I saw a wire snap ring groove at the splined lower end of it, but no snap ring. Uh-oh.... So I took off the bottom skeg plate, and saw this bronze looking ring in there, that is broken in half. Aawww..... Then some needles fell out on the benchtop. Just keeps gettin' better, and better. The gear tooth faces look pretty good, and the journal bearings that carry the prop shaft are tight, so I'm thinkin' maybe I should fix her up. I do not understand the rear snap ring on the prop shaft. What kind is it, and what is that bronze sleeve?

the snap rings hold the clutch dog, there should be two, and the brass ring is a spacer that goes behind the gear I think

Now that I'm fat'n'old, I can't see squat, so i was looking at the rear snap ring with a light and a magnifying glass, and I don't get it. It seems to be a weird one. I just don't want to screw it up.

Thats called ballast and the vision thing, well thats a gift from God so you can't see just how big your belly is

I have noticed a certain increase in the overall stability of my skiff in recent years. I have looked at the 'sploded view of my lower u, and it's not really turning on the lights for me. I got that squirrely snap ring out, but I think the shift fork is holding me up now. I can't see it, and am currently out of ideas.

can't you get the hing pin out? , I honestly have never had my hands on the newer model Eska with F-N lower unit. On the F-n-R models the thing just comes out with the shift rod in nuetral, maybe you need to make sure its in nuetral???

I don't see how to get at the hinge pin. It slides that toothed collar forward and back, but even when the thing is disengaged from the gear, the prop shaft won't come out. I keep peering down into the housing, hoping I'll see something I've so far missed. I got nuthin'.

I know this not much help but try and ask eskman2008 now that your in the club...he will want to sell you a shop manual on CD which may be just the thing to do.

I'm off to have a sleep study done tonight, I know what the Doc will say "you dreaming to much about your big ole Johnson"
