I am new to the forum and to outboard repair, however I am a competent mechanic, on to the trouble. I just picked up this Eska 7.5 model 14209 c
and it is in excellent condition the mishap must have happened on its first outing. The prop is frozen , top end pulls easily, so I took the prop off to find about 30 feet of 25lb test really wrapped up in there. I think I got it all out but I still can not get the prop to turn. The lever that operates forward gear moves easily but when in gear and I pull the engine it pulls easily so the transmission is not working? The shear pin for the prop shaft is OK so where do I look now the drive shaft? I have wanted one of these for quite a while as I am getting to old to heft my Evinrude 15 down onto my dinghy at Catalina and this thing only weighs 35-40 pounds , what a blessing. Maybe it will still get my dinghy to plane. If anybody has an idea for me that would be great. I do not have a manual but I got the exploded diagram form the Sears site , hoping I will not have to take the whole thing apart to figure it out. Many Thanks George

Re: Eska 7.5 lower unit frozen

get a manual from ebay 14.99 plus shipping, 21.00 all 2gether. very good to have. the sears diagrams nowhere close to having an original repair manual. sounds like drive shaft may have come out and jammed.these are very simple engines to work on they made 3 different gear assy. but all 3 are in the repair manual. they all are water cooled lower end and air cooled top. they run great when you get all the bugs worked out and it pushes my 14' with 2 people no problem. need any help let me know!!

Simple as that motor is, you shouldn't need a manual. Chances are that if all that line was wound on the prop shaft, the seal is ruined. Just take it apart, you will find the trouble. I went through one of those a while back for a friend. No manual needed. Nothing to it.
