Eska carburetor replacement?

I have two old eska's a 3.5hp 1969 and a 5 hp 1965, they both use the exact same carb which is an older style. They both have problems with the check valves. These are the round disk type that fit in the fuel inlet and the carburetor not the square flapper type. Two questions: is there a modern carb that I can just put on these outboards and can I just remove these old check valves and use the on board tank only?

I just bough, rebuilt and installed a 4.5 emissions carb (modern) on a 3.5 for a friend down at the marina...he said it runs fine

Mr. Crabs, Do you have the carb brand and model # of the one you used so i can look it up?

It came from a Eska 4.5 model 1974b which is a 1976 year model, not sure of the casting or part number, sorry
