Hello everyone. Thanks ahead of time because this is kind of a long post. Have a couple questions about my newly acquired Golden Jet 7... Model 1137, i think (tag hard to read)
I bought this the other day and cleaned out the fuel tank, bowl, etc... it would not run unless i put some gas directly into the bowl on the carb, so i figured i had a clog in the fuel lines. So then i cleaned them with compressed air, put it back together, and still no fuel in the bowl.... so then i found the little fuel pump diaphragm in the fuel inlet valve into the carb, and noticed it was completely stuck (not the one from the crank case). I removed this as it appeared it needed to be replaced anyway. So now i was just running basically gravity fed gas from my fuel tank attached to the engine.
I ran it at home, and it idled well, reved well etc, and seemed to be fine (ran it under load in barrel with water), but when i took it out for a test run on my boat, it seemed to run very strong, and then died out after about a minute. It would start up almost instantly after 2 pulls, and do the same thing. I realize it sounds like a classic fuel starvation scenario, but just wanted some opinions. Mainly whether i should replace the original fuel pump system, or disable the vacuum line (with modified carb gasket) from the crank case, and use a different fuel inlet fitting on the carb. After doing some reading tonight i realized this is most likely my problem, but I would rather go with a gravity fed option if possible. Is my fuel running into my crank case.... and maybe that is starving the carb?
I also wanted to mention that there is no fuel filter installed, but i plan to install one tomorrow with new fuel lines.
