eska lower end removal

I've got a 4 hp '63(?) eska golden jet, and even have two manuals. But they don't really tell how to get the lower end off. I removed the two retaining bolts/nuts, but the thing doesn't want to come apart. I'm afraid of too much prying pressure. Any ideas? There is no side plate with a convenient disconnect screw, so.....

HELP!?

My manual says before removing the gearcase on 3,4,6 and 7 it is necessary to remove the powerhead and remove the flare from the upper end of the water tube.
