i have a Eska Golden jet 5hp. I recently got new gaskets for the carborator and replaced the old ones. But once the engine is going, it runs super fast, then idles slow, fast, slow, fast, etc.
It doesnt run at a constant rate. it was sitting in a garage for a long time and the carb and gastank was all tarred up. i cleaned all that out, and it still doesnt run right. Also when you squeeze the external gas tank bulb, gas squirts out of the bowl from the bowl check valve, is that suppossed to happen? The only numbers i could find on it are:

-634-07D
4846212
1026 -03
210 6D

Anyone tell me what model/year/ratio it is??
Im using 16:1 ratio, not sure if thats right for it.

Re: eska Problem

site shows 5hp golden jets, but also can't match
any of the numbers you give. first one is model
1142 (1965) and last one listed is 1195 (1968)

Re: eska Problem

sure narrows it down though. in a 3yr span, they
were prob. almost identical.

Re: eska Problem

I just fixed a similar engine for a friend.

did you pull the carb and check the red fuel
pump insert in the carb? Mine had a crack in it and replacing it solved my problem. Make sure to install it on 45 degree angle. I have no external tank but the plumbing is there. Make sure if you are running the external tank that the onboard tank is not vented. It is a tecumseh enging so you can get parts at outboard motor shops ... I got mine at jackssmallengines.com. Make sure you cleaned out carb good including any small tubes. be careful.. don't widen any holes.

good luck.
