In my search for various parts for my AV 817 motor I was informed that the fuel pump elements will become unavailable soon and that no more will be made. The suggested work around will be to drill a new pulse hole in the block, do away with the old pulse hole and add a small J/E fuel pump.

Just a heads up, you might want to stockup on a couple of the pumps and flaper valves.

Where did you get this info? This seems like one key part that Certified Parts would definitely do whatever possible to ensure it keeps being made - since it's so integral to engine function and there are a lot of 2-cycle Tecumseh's out there.

Well I don't like to kiss and tell but I got the info from a extremely reliable source, I also found out that the 9.9 & 15hp tecumsehs starter cog or gear could be easly reproduced but the owner of Certified who's main business is extruding plastics is not interested do to the small number he thinks they would not sell enough. They own all the tooling necessary but the word is it an't going to happen:eek: Theres just no money in it...

I would guess something like this mikuni pulse pump would be a cheaper solution than J/E.

If he does injection molding, the money would be in making recoil starter pinion gears for West Bend/Chrysler motors. Yeah, I know, the tooling would be a killer.

I wonder if there are still patients on those gears? and could the be machined from metal?

Re: Eska pump element 630953

It would really surprise me if Certified Parts stopped sourcing the 630953, since there are so many Tecumseh 2-cycle engines out ther which use this part, and part of their committment to buying Tecumseh from Platinum Equity has been to keep supplying parts to users of these engines. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it would surprise me if they stopped sourcing that part.

Re: the gears, there are far fewer 9.9's and 15's out there than the single cylinder engines, so it may not make business sense to supply those gears. Seems that a good machinist could make them out of steel, but hobbing gears on a milling machine isn't super easy.

If it's true and I believe it is, it would be real pain in the behind, think of the time or cost to refit the block for a external pulse pump:( , my outboard mech buddie suggested to try a lawn mower vacuum fuel pump...I'm not sure what the diffrence is though, got to studie up on that one. Oh and my secret love told me the gas inlet plates were NLA soon "get some while you can" he said.

Got my sears seals and retainers today but my rings are on back order, I did not get the original style lower seal but the seal I did get looks heavy duty the upper seal is a cheap POS, I'm going to take them to a bearing house in Paducah KY and see if I can match it up and get a part no. I think the lower crankshaft could benefit from a dual seal setup.

Still no joy on the upper bearing, torrington y-148.
