What are some essential items you guys carry in the boat besides life jackets and any other safety equipment? Tools, extra prop, patch kit?

It really depends on where you use your boat. Are you on a Lake, A River, The Ocean, Protected water, Unprotected water, A Bay, A Saltwater Creek. What is the temperature like . Are you by yourself, in a group (recommended) You need more equipment when you are by yourself than when in a group . I posted a list earlier in the April May time frame on what the U.S. Coast Guard says you should carry. Additionally every coastal state /province in North America has some subset of those rules . A Marine GPS/Chart Plotter is nice to have A electric air pump complete with the battery to run it . Marine epoxy . A role of Duct tape

Will add 3M electric tape, pliers, tie wraps, radio, AA-AAA batteries, sun block, sun glases, hats and above all cel phone/VHF radio to call Mcgyver for fast assistance.

Forget the spare prop, oars I would consider important, along with the other things listed above. VHF is the top of the list! Flares are a USCG requirement for off shore.
