ETEC hesitation

I have an 06 etec 75 hp. It has a hesitation or miss from 1200 - 1800 rpm. It is continuous anytime in this rpm range. Elswhere it runs fine. The only other odd thing is when you put it back in nuetral the engine will actually rev up 300-4oo rpm then settle down. My dealer says it is because of not running a BRP prop. He put on a 17p sst and the problem went away. I have a 19p powertech. I'm thinking it is more of a load issue that causes the this problem to be more evident. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this. I've already replaced the primer bulb and thinking about the anti siphon valve on the tank. Just thinking of a lean condition or air getting into the fuel system. Motor is on a H51 express.

at one point, you say the new 17 BRP prop made the problem go away. I may be missing something, but it sounds like you're still trying to solve the problem.

The 90hp and smaller E-TECs do not have an exhaust back pressure sensor so propping correctly is very important on them, because the motors are calibrated for a specific "load" on them.

Refer to the optimum rpm charts that the factory supplies to the dealers and prop to those specs.

Also most inline motors have updated software that allows fine-tuning of the throttle position sensor calibration. That sometimes helps the motors run smoother at midrange rpms.

TPS was checked to factory spec . Then it was adjusted for slightly more fuel. No change. When you spray either around the intake it doesn't do it. Has anyone ever seen this before. I don't mind repropping. I just don't want to be on here 6 months from now complaining about how my etec just blew up. Another proud Evinrude owner.

I'm starting to wonder about these E-tecs. I've seen people post comments here that in no way does E-tec have anything in common with the previous Evinrude Fichts. I owned a 2000 Ficht 150hp and it had hesitation and skipping in the exact same range you've described about your E-tec. My dealer tried everything he could imagine ( computer codes did not reveal any problems ) to cure the skipping and missing, and with all the multitude of components he replaced, and they were very many, no supposed remedy ever changed the way that motor ran. He finally bought it back from me.

E-Tec's have little in common with Ficht motors, other than both are DI. EMM, injectors, electrical system is completely different. The most in common is mechanical, like gearcase, etc. and even there BRP made significant changes.

Motor only does it while on the lake. Won't do it in the test tank

Yeah I still have the POS. Until I can sell it and go back to the other gray motor. It might be foreign but at least its all made in one country. Unlike the internationally made boxed in the us motor I have now.

I think it corrected the problem of hesitation ... what other issues do you have?
