Has anyone used this foam? I'm told it is a closed cell foam that comes in sheets or blocks. I also hear it is a bit spendy. But then again, so is pour in closed cell foam. The mix/pour race of pour in foam seems too frantic to me. I am thinking of buying Ethafoam and cutting it into the required sizes to fit between my stringers. Then lay down either Seacast self leveling floor or the 1/2 inch marine ply.

Any experiances with this stuff from anyone?

I think kayaks and canoes use ethafoam but it's not built in or inaccessable. I would think it might work as well as other foams. What is "Seacast self leveling floor"? Sam

I have said this before, one way to add foam is to buy pink styrofoam from home depot, it comes 2" thick by 8'. If you measure the depth you need, you can glue these sheets together to make the thickness you need, and cut the shape you want to fit the area. This styrofoam is completly water proof, very light weight, and will not rot. You can even wrap it in plastic (leaving air holes at the top for ventilation) for further water protection. Works really well for a fraction of the cost.

OK.. i'll admit up front that i'm green regarding boat renovation.. but i have to ask.. What is the deal w/ foam? Why is it in the floor? for boyancy? for sound dedening? I have a 18' mariner '73 starcraft that i just ripped the floor out of to replace and there was misc sheets & blocks of styrofoam in it. What's closed cell vs. regular styrofoam? how can you tell? should i replace it w/ the 'pink stuff'? my buddy has the same boat as me and put 20 old PFD's under the floor. Won't they eventually saturate and rot?

Thanks Mark! I had no idea that home depot had anything like this. I'll look into it today.
