Re: Ethanol Fuel

Yes, vaporlock issues on my 2000 merc. 5.0 EFI. I would recommend staying away from it if you can.

Re: Ethanol Fuel

It was introduced in the Midwest in 1997. I've had older car problems with it but not with a boat. In neglected fuel systems, it can loosen accummulated crud and plug up fuel filters. Once the system is cleaned (may take a couple of filters) its good to go. If any crud makes its way through the filters a carb rebuild may be needed. Again, once the system is cleaned up there should be no problems. Newer engines are built to run on the stuff will tolerate it nicely. Vapor lock has not been an issue.

DHP, Since I had stayed away from the ethanol, I have had no further problems with vaporlock. The first couple of tanks of fuel I had run thru the engine, had the ethanol, and I had lots of problems. I bought this boat used, so I don't know if the previous owner has had issues or not with the blend.
