ethanol treatment question

I currently buy 91 octane-non ethanol fuel for my boats, even though my engines are rated for 87 octane. I just want to avoid the ethanol. This seems to work fine and I will continue to do this if necessary. Here is my question... Can I add a product such as Stabil Marine fuel additive to 87 octane E10 fuel and be secure in the performance. If I read the info on the Stabil Marine formula it sounds like that is just what its for. The Stabil would add maybe 10 cents a gallon, but that is still cheaper than buying premium, and the premium non ethanol fuel is not as readily available. What do you think?

The ethanol add-in products don't do much. They might help slightly with phase separation, but they don't change the fact that you have 10% ethanol in your fuel! If you have parts that are going to be attacked by ethanol, it won't help that, nor will it change ethanol's cleaning properties for the gunk that is already in your fuel system/lines/carbs.

I use Startron for my alcohol/gas stabilizer, used it for years, no problems with fuel system at all.

I think the biggest problem with ethanol is people just being worried. If you are buying most of your gas on land from stations that sell a lot of fuel, you are not going to have a problem.

+1 big Amen to that... fuel additives for winter storage sure... highly recommended, other than that,, not so sure it matters much.. more attention needs to be paid to fuel filters and water separting filters, electrical, to keep your engine running well

I park my boat in a dry non-heated shop around Sep of every year and around June, I take it over to the Arco station and fill it up with the E-10 regular fuel and run it all summer. This Sep, I'll do it again.

I do not use any sort of fuel snake-oil.

I do this year after year.............. I think I'll probably replace the fuel filter this year (it's been a few years since the last filter) I never have had a fuel related (or any) problem.

If using NON-ethanol fuel and adding "stuff" to your fuel makes you feel better, by all means do it..........Many of us don't.

Cheers,

Rick
