I have an 1986 70hp Johnson with external tank how quickly would it take 10% ethanol to cause damage to my fuel system ?

I added a couple of gallons of ehtanol mixed gas to a half full tank right before I hit the lake and started having problems (no problem at wto, does not idel well, miss, starts well, revs when you push choke/prime or pump bulb)

I had not used ehtanol previously in the system.

Re: ethanol

Hi, Nuboat.

Get an Operator's Manual or ask a Johnson or Evinrude dealer.

The new fuel systems will tolerate up to 10% Ethanol, but I don't know when they started making them that way.

If your engine is not equipped, get the ethanol enriched fuel out of the system as soon as possible. Many parts in the older carbs absorb Ethanol and swell or are made soft and useless.

Good luck. :)
