Hey all,

I have a 15' SeaSwirl (1972) with and Evinrude 50hp OB. The other day I had 2 passengers on the boat (including myself) and set the motor tilt to the second pin location from the bottom (trimmed out?). The boat rode great and planed with ease. I had just replaced the spark plugs.

Today I took 3 adults and 1 small child (including myself) and I could not get it to plane at all. Not even close. So I tried to tilt the motor up into other pin locations higher up but did not really make much difference.

Does 1 adult and 1 child make that much of a difference in a 15' boat or do I have some other issue going on?

Re: Ev 50hp Plane Troubleshooting

A couple hundred pounds on a 15 foot boat with a 50 hp motor can definately make a difference. Trim tabs would help as would people sitting in strategic locations in the boat. The more you trim the engine up/out the harder the engine has to work to plane the boat. Also when you have a heavy load in the rear of the boat, planning time is extended or negated.
