I'm considering buying a used 2hp Honda outboard for my Potter 15. Serial no. 1002676.

Can someone tell me the approximate year of this motor? Also, hints on evaluating it before purchase would be appreciated. It has been run in salt water.

TIA

There is not a whole lotta power in a 2hp.I bought a 2hp Yamaha for my zodiac and got tired of everybody blasting passed me so I used it twice, hung it in my boiler room and went out and bought a 9.9.Man,what a difference.I have been meaning to put the 2hp on ebay, thanks for the reminder.Incase you are interested you can leave me your email address.Charlie

I am thinking on picking up one of these little guys. Only concern I have is the single cylinder and how they idle down. The 2 HP honda weighs like 29 lbs which is a lot lighter than most everything out there. I figure an electric and second battery would weigh more. Mostly looking to do the walleye troll at very slow speeds. I currently have an old Evenrude lightwin 3 HP which is two stroke and it idles like a dream. Problem is this is a short shaft and I need a long shaft for the new boat. Forward only and no nuetral is a bit of a hassle, but I am willing to deal with this to save weight.

How much you looking to get for this motor? I might take it off your hands.

The Honda 2 will idle down smoothly even though its a single cylinder. Remember, its intended to be used on light weight Jon boats or Canoes. If you try to power a 400 lb boat, it will move it, just dont expect whiplash :)

Nav

Fished out of a 300 lb boat with two guys last week. 68 lightwin 3HP on a 57 Crestliner 14' - 5 MPH top, but more improtantly, trolling speed of almost zero for the early season fish that like to look at a worm awhile before they eat it.

They also sell one with an optional centrifugal clutch that will idle all the way down to neutral. Still no reverse though. I thinks it's about $100.00 extra.
