Re: Even you I/O guys have to admit this one was probably not a good idea
I've always wanted a 7 cylinder Renault marine engine.
Heard they're real reliable and parts plentiful, especially with an old volvo stern drive
could I be more facetious? =p
Re: Even you I/O guys have to admit this one was probably not a good idea
I had a 4 cyl. Renault in a 16 ft boat. Worst set up I ever owned. Outdrive was ok but motor blew head gaskets and just was terrible to keep running. Got stranded across 6 mile of pugetsound in the 70s and had to come in with the tide with a 6 hp kicker . What a trip. Next step was to give the boat away.
Re: Even you I/O guys have to admit this one was probably not a good idea
Can't get parts for the old Renault's. They came in 70 hp and 90 hp I think. They were 4 cylinders, not 7, I think. I'd rather have an OMC stringer in my truck than one.
Yea EZ that's even worse than a two stroke outboard!
Re: Even you I/O guys have to admit this one was probably not a good idea
Wait a second. OBs RULE Check the latest boats. I think because the average or even smarter then average cannot repair the newer Inboard motors. To complex and you need a computer. Outboards the same ,to complex.
Re: Even you I/O guys have to admit this one was probably not a good idea
Funny enough guys, I didn't even really process the 7 cyl part. I guess I just mentally glossed over it since I knew it wasn't correct. I posted this specifically cuz it was a 60HP Renault I/O!
Re: Even you I/O guys have to admit this one was probably not a good idea
He's still sticking to his 7 cylinders description. I've got one I/O and that's good enough for me. I/O's are like women, one's more than enough.
Interesting little boat though. Parts are impossible to get. A 3.0 in a Jupiter, you might be on to something there Jas. We don't call you Dr. M.J. Mercruiser for nothing.
