Evenrude 115 Alternator Over Charging

My 115 HP Evenrude (Purchased in 1969)is Model 115983, Serial #E05870. The charging system charges to the top of the dash board meter. This motor has a history of burning out "Pulse Pack". I can not identify the voltage regulator ?. My Clymer Manual does not show this configuration. I need help from someone or a lead on a different manual.

Use a digital voltmeter to establish the charging voltage exactly (i.e. engine running, measure battery or alternator/stator output, when it stops increasing. If it goes well over 14.2 volts, there's a problem).

Lyle.... That 1969 115hp Evinrude (and other models that use the same type ignition) demand a high quality battery of at least a 70 amp hour rating. Using anything less runs the possibility of damaging the "Battery Capacitance Discharge" powerpack.<br /><br />Also, even with that type battery, if there are loose and/or corroded (faulty by any means) connections, the same risk of powerpack damage exists.<br /><br />There is no voltage regulator within that charging system. If the voltage should start to rise over 14.2 or 14.5 volts, I would suggest that you have something you can turn on to cause the voltage to drop.
