Hello, I have a 1979 Evenrude 115 and when I trim it up, it will slowly drift down. Do I need to rebuild this whole unit, or would there be a more economical/simple fix....any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

Is the reservoir full? Possible that the some of the orings are tired and need to be replaced. Could also be a bad control valve. You could also have dirt/debris in one of the control valves. Not sure that the control valves are still avail anymore. Does it come down on it's own when in the tilt position, or when it is in the trim postion? It is leaking from any of the piston cap seals? You can either tear it down or buy a complete used unit. There are many used ones around for reasonable prices.

Don't see any visible leaks. It comes down when it is in the Tilt position (motor is up near the horizontal position) (not sure of the difference between the Tilt and Trim position though)

I will have to check your suggestions this weekend...thanks.
