Evenrude 1993 48spl peeing on muffs without motor running....

Ok I was testing the motor this am ... Put muffs on ready to test and water came straight out of the pee/tell tail with out the motor running... Am right in assuming the impeller as disintegrated..?? :blue:

I've seen this happen on other mtrs and there was nothing wrong with them. But if you have doubts, pull the g/c and check the pump.

It happens on mine and never thought twice about it being a bad thing... I've never had a damaged impeller and always have had a strong tell-tale (knock-on-wood!).

However I can see where the curiousity would be as the water pick-up and output are on opposite sides of the pump / housing. The water must find a way around the impeller fins as it's contorted inside of the cup and/or it's getting in through the shift-rod port as they're not separated by the "sketti" seal...at least on an '83 35hp waterpump design.

Water pressure could be pushing right thru or it could be turning the impeller or it could be blowing right over/under it. Best to take it apart & make sure it's all okay.

I took it apart.... and the impeller has disintegrated.... so new impeller to be fitted..... Thanks for your advice guys!!

Make sure you find all the pieces of the bad impeller. They could block your cooling system passages in the P/H and ect.

Thanks boobie..... all pieces found and new impeller is in there its peeing only when the motor is running. !!
