Evenrude outboard year and cleaning?

I am rebuilding a 15 horse evenrude.<br />Here is what is stamped on the welch plug.<br />E15RCSD<br />E0004098<br /><br />What year is this engine.<br />Also after pulling the cylinder head off there is lots of buildup of scale in the water ports and channels.<br />Other than a wire brush and elbow grease is there something you can soak in to remove this scale?

Hello.<br />Looks like a 1980.<br />Citric acid will disolve most calcium build up.If you do not know where to find this,take some lemon juice and add salt and there is your citric acid.

Might try a product called CLR. Avaiable at most discount stores. Works good on other calcium deposits around the house.
