I have a 70 hp Evenrude (1986 I think) and cleaned the Carbs, did a compression test. Runs great in the yard, but under a load it just won't get on plane. Runs like it just not getting to the bottom end to go. Do you think it has anything to do with the timing? And what is the WOT Timing on this 70? I still think it has something to do with the Carbs. Ajusting maybe? I can't think of anything else and it's driving me crazy. Please help me if you can. Thanks, Ron:confused:

When you cleaned the carbs did you remove high speed jets and clean them with a wire and blow compressed air through the passages?

Have you verified that there is spark on all three cylinders. Generally a boat that does not plane when it did before, means the engine has a cylinder that is not firing. Timing is very rarely the issue with inability to plane. If someone has mucked with the throttle and advance linkage, you need a service manual for your engine so that you can do a complete link&sync. That is far too detailed a process to outline here.

RonnyL,
Is the fuel and oil mixture in the fuel tank fresh and has not been sitting up for a long while. If the gas has soured then that will definitely cause your non planing issues. I learned that with my first boat. The gas was sour and I had to flush it out and add fresh oil fuel mixture back to the fuel tank and after clearing the old fuel from the carbs the outboard ran good as new with plenty of power. Just make sure your fuel is fresh and has not setup and soured or went bad.
