whats so weird is that the boat and 88 searay looks brand new on the inside and like crap on the out side..

It really depends on the condition of your gelcoat now.I would always try to get the gelcoat back to looking good with a polishing wheel and some polishing compound followed by a quality polish or wax.Vertiglas is not simple to apply uniformly and the gelcoat has to be prepared properly with no shortcuts.Results vary .I have seen some jobs come out great and some look like crap.Charlie

i have not used it either but have read that the hull has to be stripped if you ever want to get rid of the vert glas. more commitment than i wanted to make.

It worked great for me. The boat I used to have had what I thought was gray trim. After using Vertglass, I discovered it was actually blue.<br /><br />Mine was in pretty sorry shape, it took a lot of elbow grease. <br /><br />Mark42 had a method that seemed to work pretty well and is a lot cheaper. Maybe he will chime in.<br /><br />Oh yeah, it isnt wax. It looks and smells more like liquid floor wax. You also have to use their boat wash to keep the shine up.

Personally, I use Liquid Lustre While at Sea-Fair in Seattle, the captain of my section had an old inboard from the Seattle's worlds fair. It was REALLY faded red. While the Blue Angels were practicing, I quietly took some of this stuff and did a little circle on his bow, then quietly got back on my boat, after the Angles finished, we were idling back to the dock when he spotted the area I waxed and went crazy. He ended up doing the entire boat and it looked like it was brand new. Even the next year it still looked great.<br /><br />It's REALLY easy to apply, use one terrycloth washcloth or towel to apply it (You can apply to the entire baot at once and then use alother towel/cloth to buff it out if you want to) and amother cloth to buff it out when dry.<br /><br />If the temp/humidity had reached the "Dew Point" it won't buff out, it just gets wet again. Happened to us once and we left it overnight, the next day around 11am we buffed it out. You can't get a buildup as a "second coat" takes the first one off anyway. Makes my 1979 Merc 140 look brand new.<br /><br />Hope this helps.<br /><br />Craig

I've used a similar acrylic coating.<br />It was easy to put on, had a great shine and held up a long time. <br />Then the following year some areas started showing dirt. That's when the problems started. Everything has to be absolutely clean before applying. So that means you have to clean the dirty areas before reapplying.<br />I ended cleaning the entire hull with acetone and going back to wax.<br />My 2c

I used that on my car lots of times then I ran out. I like that wax a lot and it lasted about 6 monthes. It really shined the car. But the guy at the State fair I bought it at was not around so I could not find it. Will be ordering some for my truck and the wifes Van.<br /><br />Honestly it wipes on and then dries dull. wipes off real easy. I usually did the whole car then came back and wiped off. Newer waxes you have to put on then wipe off real fast.
