everstart maxx 12v question

I just bought a new battery, do i have to charge it before i use it? And also, i only use if on my 24ft pontoon, just for tooling around, no fishing, should i charge it after each use? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!! Shelly

it's a 12v marine battery, used for a 24' pontoon, just tooling around.

Some shops keep them topped up while on the shelf, some don't.

I vote yes, can't hurt.

Wouldn't hurt, you never know exactly how well a new battery is charged.

If it is hooked to the motor you should have to charge very often, the motor charges it as you drive the boat.

it never hurts to top one off when new. the can sit quite a while before purchase. i have found them the have about a 70% charge off the shelf. also the do not like to sit in an uncharged state. decreases there like quite a bit.

Checking the voltage tells you nothing about the state of charge, mt, unless it is nearly dead.

If you want to check state of charge use a hydrometer.

Shelly, batteries are Electric.

Your outboard should keep the battery charged unless you run other electric/electronic devices a lot with the engine off.

Yes, put her on a charger (automatic preferred) before you use her.
