Evienrude 175 hp overheats

I have a 1993 175 hp V-6 Evinrude that overheats after 20 minutes at 1/2 power or greater, sounds the alarm, cuts back on the RPM ...and eventually stops running. I've changed both thermostats and the water pump, but still the same problem. Any thoughts on the problem and cure?

Welcome!!<br /><br />We've seen this before and it was either a faulty sensor or there is a buildup in the water passages in the heads. (Providing the correct water pump is installed)<br /><br />Sometimes you have to take the heads off and clean them out. Some people have said that using "Salt-Away" removes the buildup in the water passages.
