I am restoring an old 25HP Evin. It has had an airleak at the top end of crankshaft. Is it OK to install a gasket of the type on the never motors ( i don´t know the english name ) beyond the old gasket, build in the bearing ?. There is room enough between the bearing and the cam for the breakers. I think the new kind will be more tight.
The same replacement could be made in the bottum, replacing the spring-held rubber gasken with a silicone shaftseal, as in top.

Part number for the upper crankshaft seal in the bearing is,
OMC 305987
GLM 86380
Sierra 18-2018
Should be able to remove seal from bearing race and install new one.

Re: EVIN 25 1974

Hi Sco

My motor did only iddle on one cylinder and when increasing speed, the other cylinder suddenly fired up. Full speed was no problem.

Problem started small, but developed during a year.

Both cylinders had same compression, 112 cold. When motor ran, it sprayed fuel out under the hood at the upper crankshaft end.

If it does at lover end, it can sometimes be seen like oil that leaks out on the water, but it can appear anyway.

I have heard you can try to spray WD 40 or start gas on outside of engine while running iddle. If iddle gets better, you have a leak where you spray. Be carefull with start gas as it doesnt contain oil.

Good luck
