Hey guys
Me and my buddy just replaced the water pump on his 88 Evinrude. However, now that we have everything back together, we are havign trouble getting into forward gear. There is no stickyness in the throttle but you have to get the motor up to around 3,000 RPM for it to kick into gear.
We found that if you take the cover off the motor and apply some pressure to the linkage then it will shift into gear. It's almost as if something isn't tightened down but we tested all the relevant nuts and bolts and everything seems good.
Also, when the motor is trying to shift there is a clicking vibration coming from the shift linkage, the plastic parts are hitting together...
Any ideas? Thanks
