Evinrude 10?

I have just purchased an old Sears fiberglass boad with an old Evinrude motor. This is my first boat. I beleve it might be a 10 hp, because it has a 10 painted on the cover. But I am not sure. The seriel # is 10018-10452. If anyone has any info on this motor I would sure appreciate it. It appears I may need to get a carburator gasket kit. I started it up and ran for a couple of minutes, then shut it down. Afterward I put it back in my garage and some gas leaked out. When I pulled the cover the carburator was covered with fuel.

Your motor is a 1959 model. 10018 is the model number, 10452 is the serial number.<br /><br />-John

Thanks for the info John. Now I can find a manual and get some more info on the unit.

Your dealer should have a carb kit for around 15 or twenty bucks. Rebuild the carb and make sure that all the jets are clear. When you set the float make sure it sits level when you turn it upside down. Make sure you replace the needle and seat. Happy boating. this is a solid engine.
