1198 115 Evinrude SPL with a 6 amp charging system that eats up rectifiers. After about 4-6 hours of run time the volt gauge on the dash jumps to 14-17 volts and that is it for the rectifer until it cools off but that only works for a few times. Stator checks good. Wiring harness has been checked for bare wire ect. The boat has been to two dealers and havent had any luck. Any ideas, thanx.

I believe that is an unregulated system.

Turning some type of load on inside the boat ususally helps. Or, hit your trim button up and down every few minutes.

dpg....sounds like you have a problem in the boat somewhere to drain a charging system like that. The volt meter should show 13 to 14 volts at WOT and no more. Have you tried replaceing the battery? Something is putting a very heavy load on the rectifier/regulator to cause it to heat up like that. Possibly some accessory in the boat going to ground. Keep us posted.
