Evinrude 115 hp 1980 problems

Hi, I am looking at a 17 ft whaler with a 115 1980 Evinrude. Looks good for 23 years of age. <br />Don't know any further history on the motor. I have seen cleaner motors before. Are there any inherent problems with this year motor? I am a Johnson Evinrude diehard and have owned many but not a 115 hp. Its a good deal boat motor and trailer for 2000.00

Won't comment on the price as I have no clue on the market there. I would suggest that you do, or have done, all the usual checks on the motor - compression, plugs, water test.<br /><br />I had a 1979 140 (big brother to the 115) & it was a great motor.

Take it for a sea trial. Many outboards will run just fine on the muffs or in a barrel. But going for the WOT will tell you a bit more........ <br />Good Luck

Thanks, I will do all those things and more. <br />I was just looking for the out of way thing that goes wrong with this pertiular motor. I just wanted to have some extra info on the 115 hp. <br />steve
