Hey Gang,

I just came from a Boat Dealer that told me that This 130 HP Evinrude Looper engine in not a good engine to have. I know that he is trying to sell a new engine ,but he explained that this is where Evinrude/Johnson broke the camels back for him selling these particular engines. These 120,125,and 130 were some of the worst engine for him to sell. I just got this engine last year and I wanted some insight as well as some yearly check ups that I should do before I head out this season.

Thanks,

TEX

TxTrukz,

In short: B.S.

The "looper" V-4's started out as 120, 140 and later became the 130. They share many design features of the looper V-6's.

Find another dealer.

An absolute disaster as an engine. Being a nice guy and wanting to help, send it to me. I'll help you out by taking it off your hands.

Seriously, if that dealer had trouble with those, I'd be very concerned. Those motors are torque monsters and darn near bullet proof when set up anywhere close to right. (hummmm....could there be a connection?)

I ran one on my drag boat. The basic powerhead was stock (rules). It turned 8200 rpm in the quarter mile and we were the national high point champs in the v6 class one year. (yes, with the V4)

Good luck! Really!
