Evinrude 140VRO -91 Starts and runs on idle but dies

Hi!<br />I have a problem with my 1991 evinrude 140HP VRO. The engine has been working fine for about a month but suddenly it dies at idle. When I manually primed the fuel bulb the engine is not dying but after a while the VRO signal indicates "no oil from VRO".<br /><br />I have tried to run it with a separate tank, changed fuel filter and fuel bulb. <br /><br />Please help me!

First thing is to buy a manual to the motor. After this i would start to check out the fuel/vro pump if it pumps gas/oil to the motor and for airleaks in the fuelsystem. Mean time i would add oil to the gas , when you runing the motor. Check the carbs if they are flowing, put two fingers in the carbs and you should hear lower rpm on the motor.If it does then its ok. Do you have spark on every plugg?

I had a similar problem with my 1990 120 Johnson VRO. I brought it to my mechanic and he changed the VRO pump. Cost me about $500. I thought I just needed an idle adjustment, but after he changed the pump never had any more problems.

Hi again!<br />And thank you for your fast replies. I don´t know that much about outboard engines but I´ll hope to learn more. I have talked to a local mechanic and as you said a new VRO pump would cost me app. 500$. So I will try to change the VRO pump and really hope it will help me, I´ll let you know when I´m done!

Hello Magnus<br />You dont need to buy a brand new one. Buy the repair kit to the VRO pump. It will be sheeper for you. Buy the repair manual from www.marinshopen.se price is around 38$

Hi!<br />Thank you for the advice, but one local mechanic (authorised evirude service) told me that a improved model of the VRO pump should be used else there is a possibility that the same error will occur again.

Hi again!<br />So I changed the old VRO pump to a new one and it seems to run fine again. Now I have the old left, does anyone now if there is an interest to buy old pumps for rebuild or something?<br /><br />Thanks all!<br /><br />\Magnus
