Hello:
re: 1983 Ev 150 TRLCTE
Decided to remove the cylinder heads and covers after the overheat alarm went off. Had already changed the t-stats. Found plenty of salt buildup in the heads, to the point of eating away most of the number 4 cylinder boss. All set to install a good used pair of heads with new gaskets, replace the pressure relief valve gaskets, and give it another shot. I am now questioning if I should remove the exhaust cover. Anyone know if this is necessary when trying to get rid of salt buildup? Most of the bolts will come out, but a few others may lead me into Pandora's Box. Advanced thanks for any insight.

It's something only you can decide on really. I understand your reluctance, but if it ain't cooling properly then you'll have to deal with it. A long run in fresh water will sometimes clear crystals away but that assumes it has water flow in the first place. PB Blaster is your friend.

Thanks for your thoughts. Have already started soaking the bolts with PB. Guess I'll bite the bullet and pull the cover. Breaking out the 'old flamethrower now.
