What position should the throttle be in when setting the points? I'm not sure of the year, maybe 1975. Model# 1565A, Serial# C75924. Thanks.

Re: Evinrude 15hp Points

To set points it is usually correct to turn flywheel while viewing the points till they open the maximum amount.

Re: Evinrude 15hp Points

I must remove the fly wheel to access the points. The drive shaft extends through the top of the motor and has a cam on top. The cam has a mark "set" on it.The cam opens the points. The points move on a plate which is turned as the throttle is changed. This changes the timing. The position of the throttle must be important when setting the points.

Re: Evinrude 15hp Points

You set the points when the cam's little set mark is aligned with the point rubbing block.

The throttle, and moving points plate, is all about ignition timing and the carb link-and-sync process described in your manual that you will need to read to understand.
